Kris Vieira, also known as Pinched Nerve, has independently released multiple keyboard-based albums that have received airplay on college radio stations across the nation. While taking a year off from his work in education to focus on music and travel, Vieira volunteered at Creativity Explored, a nonprofit visual arts center where artists with developmental disabilities create, exhibit, and sell art. Here he met Johanna, a three foot tall, blind, Latina, from San Francisco’s Mission district that loves to sing, clap, and tell stories.
Twice a week, Vieira visited Johanna at Creativity Explored’s studio with his laptop, microphones, percussion instruments, effects, and keyboards. This is the music that Johanna created during those visits.
Falling somewhere between Daniel Johnston and Las Malas Amistades, Joanna’s love for music shines through the casiotone drum beats, digital delay, and hand percussion.
